Norfolk State's Pendarvis Williams has been chosen as the StatSheet MEAC Player of the Week for the week ending January 28th. Patrick Cole from Coppin State has earned StatSheet's MEAC Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Tyshawn Bell from Delaware State has won StatSheet's MEAC 6th Man of the Week. Williams registered big numbers in rebounding (4 per game), shooting (50%), and scoring (18 pts per game). The Norfolk State junior played well in wins against Morgan State and Hampton.
Williams topped all scoring for the Spartans with 20 points while also adding 2 assists in a close 73-71 win over Morgan State. He then led all scoring and rebounding with a 16 point and 6 rebound performance in a 74-67 victory over Hampton.
This is the second StatSheet MEAC Player of the Week award for Pendarvis Williams. He has also come in second once. The runner-up this week is junior Stanton Kidd from North Carolina Central. Honorable mention goes to Marques Oliver, a senior from Delaware State.
StatSheet MEAC Freshman of the Week: Coppin State's Patrick Cole
Patrick Cole averaged 26 minutes as a starter for Coppin State. He led all MEAC freshmen in both scoring (23.0 pts per game) and three pointers (3.0 per game). In a late 67-65 win over Hampton, Cole led the Eagles in scoring with 29 points on 52% shooting. In an 84-75 loss to North Carolina Central, he added 17 points and 6 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet MEAC Freshman of the Week honor for Patrick Cole. The runner-up is Kevin Mays from Maryland-Eastern Shore. Trey Kellum from Florida A&M takes honorable mention.
StatSheet MEAC 6th Man of the Week: Delaware State's Tyshawn Bell
Sophomore Tyshawn Bell, a 6-7 forward, averaged 22 minutes over two games for the Hornets. In a 63-46 win over Howard, Bell put up 14 points and 5 rebounds. During a 68-52 win against Bethune-Cookman, he racked up 7 points and 4 rebounds.
This is Tyshawn Bell's first StatSheet MEAC 6th Man of the Week award this season. Amere May, a sophomore guard from Delaware State, is runner up. Ramon Mercado, a junior guard from Hampton, receives honorable mention. The highest ranking 6th man from North Carolina A&T was DeMetrius Upchurch who finished 7th. North Carolina A&T has 2 StatSheet MEAC Player of the Week wins this season.
